Before The Crocodile Gets Us

Last weekend I watched one of my favorite movies with my family. Finding Neverland is the story of JM Barrie and the source of his inspiration for writing the play with Peter Pan that has become a universal classic in books and theatre.

As is often the case, I gained a new insight about an element of the story of Peter Pan when watching it again. The scene involved JM Barrie (played by Johnny Depp) talking with "Mrs. Snow," an elderly lady who always attended Barrie's plays with her husband. When he is not with her, Barrie inquires as to his whereabouts. She responds sadly that he has passed away. Barrie offers his condolences, and after describing her husband and his passions she says:
I suppose it's all the work of the ticking crocodile, isn't it? Time chasing after all of us. Isn't that right, Mr Barrie?
Barrie's response was, "That's right, Ms. Snow."

It made me stop and think about the goals, dreams and plans I have that can be swallowed up by time-and the need to stay passionate about reaching them before the crocodile finds me.
