Go Big By Going Small!
My mind begins racing this time of year thinking of how I can get everything done over the holidays. It's not about work, though. It's getting together with all the important people in my life and finding just the right gift for everyone. While I hear the cliche, "It's the thought that counts" ringing in my head, I shove it aside because I have to try and make everything perfect.
Then a few days ago I came across the following quote:
The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions-the little, soon forgotten charities of a kiss or a smile, a kind look or heartfelt compliment.
-Samuel Taylor Coleridge
-Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Once again I was reminded of how important it is to focus on the little things-not necessarily the details-but the little things that make life meaningful. It means not getting frustrated with my family when we are trying to clean up the house and get ready for visitors. It means taking the time to be specific with a compliment instead of just offering vague platitudes. And yes, it is not always thinking in terms of material gifts, but instead reflecting on what I can do for someone-not just during the holidays-but throughout the year.
