Came Across A Strong Quote About Passion
Merce Cunningham was a dancer and choreographer that died this year. In their "Farewell" section of Time Magazine this week they provided this quote by Cunningham:
You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive. It is not for unsteady souls.
WOW! While the quote was about dancing, if you are passionate about something in your life you could replace the word "dancing" with something else. For me, it would be running. I'm not a great runner, and I'll probably never win any awards-it's not why I do it. It's those "fleeting moments" when I am out there doing it, and have a sense of peace and purpose that is truly invigorating.
The last phrase in his quote was also very telling. In my journey, the people who I have met who seem to have the most "steady souls" are those people who have a passion-something driving them that is bigger than any award, any recognition and any money.
How "steady" are you today? And if you're not, how easy is it for you to identify your passion? The two are definitely related.
