Keeping People Focused On Change
While traveling through the Charlotte airport I was quite surprised to see this water fountain. "What a fantastic idea," I thought. If you have ever tried to fill up your water bottle at most water fountains, you know what a pain it can be. On a good day you might get it one-third full. Using this water fountain you can fill it a full as you like. Kudos to the inventors!
What really caught my eye, though, was the lcd display in the top right corner. It kept a running total of how many water bottles would not have to be produced due to using the fountain. Ingenious. People who are already carrying their own plastic or stainless steel water bottle get another bit of encouragement about making the choice, thereby continuing to engage in the new behavior.
While journeying through change, we need these same types of reminders that our new behaviors or attitudes are making a difference. They don't have to be large, but they do need to be visible.
